Adam Henriques clever assist helps Devils complete comeback vs. Habs

The are having one of those seasons where it is awfully difficult to figure out if theyre for real. With a 12-9-2 record, theyre still not among the leagues top teams, but theyve been far better than expected coming into the year. They just nabbed another huge win by going into Montreal and beating the league-leading and they did it in comeback fashion. Though the Habs may be without starting goalie Carey Price, theyve still been difficult to catch when they get out to a lead and thats exactly what they had heading into the latter half of the third period. The Habs were up 2-0 after scored with 11:10 to play in regulation, but veteran forward cut the deficit in half 2:11 later in just his second game this season with Russell Westbrook Jersey the Devils. New Jersey still trailed in the closing minutes, however.Thats when Jersey native came up with yet another huge goal for his hometown team. The forward took a pa s from defenseman and drilled a slap shot through a screen and past Habs netminder with just 21.8 seconds remaining in regulation. He pretty much guaranteed them a standings point with that blast, but the Devils werent done yet. After trading chances with Montreal early in the overtime period, Devils forward collected a loose puck and sprang for the open ice. There was no one between him and the net, but speedy Montreal forward was in hot pursuit.Henrique still had a chance to put a shot on net, but he shocked everyone when he dropped the puck to the hard-charging Moore who was just a few steps behind. The defenseman got one whack at the puck that Mike Condon got a piece of, but Moores momentum carried him into the rebound. He chipped the puck up and over James Johnson Jersey Condon to give the Devils a stunning 3-2 win on the road. Adam Henrique made a pa s while on a breakaway. It worked. NHL (@NHL) How many players are pa sing the puck on a breakaway like that? And how much grief would Henrique have gotten if it didn't end up working out? Lucky for him, we'll never know thanks to Moore's quick stick work.Due to the dramatic fashion of the win, goalie s strong 30-save performance was overshadowed. The Devils No. 1 goalie is now 11-6-2 with a .928 save percentage and 2.03 goals-against average. He is quietly having yet another phenomenal season. The victory for New Jersey avenged a 3-2 shootout lo s to the Habs from the night before and halted Montreals four-game winning streak. It also keeps the Devils close to the pack of four Metropolitan Division teams currently in playoff position as their surprising start continues.
